Junior Sailing

Welcome Sailing Season!

During the summer months, MYC sponsors an outstanding Youth Sailing Program put on by Sailing Education Adventures (SEA) to teach local youth the joys of sailing on the Bay.  If you are interested in our Youth Sailing Program, please contact our  Club Office and SEA's website at sfsailing.org

Sailing Education Adventures' Sail Camp is one of the best ways for children to learn to sail in the Bay Area. It offers intensive instruction on 12'-14' sailboats as well as lessons on boat safety and seamanship.  And most importantly, Sail Camp fosters teamwork and individual self-confidence.  The one-week Mini Camp is held at Loch Lomond Marina while the two-week Basic Camp is here at the Marin Yacht Club.  All classes are taught by experienced instructors certified by the US Sailing Association. Parent, campers, instructors and friends celebrate the end of Basic Sail Camp at a graduation BBQ held at Marin Yacht Club where certificates and awards are presented.

In 1998, Sailing Education Adventures (SEA) and Marin Yacht Club won the prestigious Nimitz Trophy in recognition of the quality of our youth program.  Join us on the water for this exciting and educational sailing experience.

MYC Members Interested in Sailing MYC Owned Sailboats - need to be Qualified
Contact Jose Bethencourt ([email protected]) if you are interested in scheduling a qualification session.
Interested in sailing around the MYC Harbor & up the San Rafael Canal, using the Club's 2 CFJs & the red 14' O-Day? Please fill out a questionnaire & sign a Waiver of Liability for the Members' Small Boat Sailing Program. We'll schedule a Qualifying Day to go over rigging procedures & sailing rules.

To qualify to take out the Club's dinghies, (1) please contact the office to obtain a questionnaire to complete & sign up, and (2) contact Chris Cain & Jose Bethencourt. They'll set a date for all to attend a Qualifying & Rigging Session. We've had suggestions that a stand-by Safety Boat should be required for these small boat sailing outings, with a nominal hourly fee per usage, staffed by qualified Junior Members operated via radio contact on your behalf to avoid sailors getting into tidal and/or capsize difficulties in the San Rafael Canal & Club Harbor area. Attention Paddle Board and Kayak Users...
Both MYC & privately owned paddle boards & kayaks are stored on Upper A Dock. Please be aware that MYC owned equipment is marked with our club burgee. When using MYC equipment, please return it to its rack, in clean condition & ready for the next user. We encourage members to mark & lock their privately owned equipment so others will know it is not for their use without your permission.  Unclaimed equipment is donated to the club as loaners. Paddle boards & kayaks are expensive; your courteous use of these items is appreciated.
