24 Summit Avenue, San Rafael, CA 94901

Beale Island

The home of Marin Yacht Club, is situated at the northern shore of the San Rafael Canal entrance from San Pedro Bay. The Island and the belonging neighboring lands on its vicinity, occupy an area of six acres.

The island was originally a marsh, occasionally covered by water, especially in winter months, during the strong south easterlies.

The island was created when the Army Corps of Engineers straightened the Goose Neck bend to allow easier access to the San Rafael Slough.

In 1939, Marin Yacht Club purchased The Island, then a property of the Beale family, for the sum of $3,600.

Extensive dredging of the area for creation of the yacht basin, produced the sludge which was piled up and created the Beale island, home of Marin Yacht Club. The club has the following facilities;

The Club House

The Clubhouse is located at the western edge of the island. It overlooks the San Rafael canal and San Pedro Bay. The clubhouse has a large bar at the upper floor with spectacular view of the bay and Point San Pablo and the city of Richmond on the East bay. The ground floor houses a rather large dining room and well-equipped kitchen allowing catering for regular club dinners and functions for our guests. The capacity of the dining room is for 105 persons. Offices of the club are located at the ground floor. The newly constructed Bocce Ball court that was finished in June 2004 and is located near the Main Clubhouse is the pride and joy of the Club members. Our perfect California weather permits the use of this facility all year round and its close vicinity to the main Clubhouse allows ready access to the bar and the dining room areas.

The Docks

There are 3 Major docks, with 118 slips, that vary in sizes from 36’ to 80’. There are bathroom and shower facilities at the end of A dock, as well as inside the clubhouse building. The club members own almost all the slips, but a few are offered for rent or lease and are exclusively for the members of the club. There are a number of side ties available, which are reserved for visiting yachtsmen, however through previous arrangement, reciprocating yacht clubs may arrange for further slips to be made available by contacting the Harbormaster. The garbage disposal centre and recycling station is situated at a separate shed at the head of the A dock. The ice vending machines are situated at the head of A and C docks.
