List of various activities at the Marin Yacht Club

The name Marin Yacht Club refers mainly to our past and is not reflective of our today’s image. As some know well, boating and Golf are two passtimes that often have difficulty co-existing. Due to this conflict, in the first half of the last century, a number of sailors who found themselves tied down with a Country Club and its obsession with Golf, decided to follow their own dreams. At first they created a yachting annex to the Country Club they all belonged to and then an independent Yacht Club. They intended to mainly dedicate their spare time to activities on the water.

However as they and their families wished to have other recreational facilities as well as playing with boats, they gradually added other activities that usually go along with a country club. In this endeavor, beside construction of the main Clubhouse and the Marina, a smaller Club house with adjacent tennis, swimming facilities and a Jacuzzi has been added to the complex.

The Club’s large main Clubhouse invites the members and their guests to luxurious dining on certain days of the week and during Club events. The Club’s spacious upstairs bar with panoramic views of the San Pedro and San Francisco Bay invites one to a relaxing afternoon drink in a friendly atmosphere. Watching games on the widescreen flat panel TV with friends, enjoying the view of the Bay and having your favorite drink at he upstairs bar of the Clubjhouse is very popular pastime for the Club members and their invited guests. The camaraderie and sense of belonging is a special character of our gatherings on Friday and Sunday afternoons.

The tennis and swimming pool facilities are situated on the North East corner of the Club’s property and are closest to San Pedro Road. Activities in that part of the Club help to enhance further the "Total Marin Yacht Club" experience. The Clubhouse with its wet bar and fire place offer a majestic view of Yacht Clubs’ harbor, swimming pool, and tennis courts. A complete exercise room with a large television, and a spa for relaxation, are but a few of the many available amenities. The facility is also available for members' private small parties and family gatherings.

To give the experience of Club life more substance and make it further rewarding, services of a resident professional tennis instructor is available for the members and guests.

The result of all that is described, is the present Marin yacht Club which can essentially be considered a Country Club without a Golf Course, but with access to literally all the worlds’ oceans through its backyard. These qualities make the Marin Yacht Club a family oriented club, with many activities and programs for all members and their guests of all ages. Although boating and marine activities are the major thrust of the Club, it caters to many other recreational activities.

The newest addition to the the Club recreational facilities is a bocce ball court near the main Clubhouse, within easy reach of the covered barbecue facility and the bar.

Marin Yacht Club has deservedly chosen to make our motto;

“The Friendliest Yacht Club on the Bay”

and we consider our Club to be an ideal cruise destination for visiting Yacht Clubs, yachtsmen and their guests.
