MYC located in the mouth of San Rafael creek, and our yacht basin is behind Beale Island. The protected, enclosed waters around the Club, and quick access to San Pedro Bay, makes dinghy sailing and learning how to sail both easy and safe for children, and is also excellent for those who like challenges
The Junior Sailing program offers intensive instruction on Laser and Byte class boats, as well as lessons on boat safety and seamanship, in several sessions across the summer vacation. The most important goals for Sail Camp are fostering teamwork, self-reliance, and fun.
Sailing classes are held in the form of a Summer Sail Camp provided in cooperation with Sailing Education Adventures (SEA), a non-profit organization dedicated to affordable community sailing programs on the San Francisco Bay. SEA also runs an adult sailing education program based in Sausalito.
Sail Camp is held in the Club Harbor and on San Rafael Bay. Classes are taught by experienced instructors certified by the U.S. SailingAssociation.
During the summer, additional sailing opportunities are offered to our Junior sailors by Club members, including day sails aboard larger member boats during each two-week session. This exposure allows the next generation of sailors to experience first hand the feeling of a larger keel boat and the possibilities such vessels offer.
At the end of each session, Junior Sailors, together with their instructors, parents, and friends, celebrate the end of Sail Camp with a graduation ceremony held at the Club’s BBQ. At this ceremony, campers receive their Certificates and performance awards, and get a chance to relive some of the highlights of their camp experience.
Sailing Camp provides sessions tailored to kids from 8-14, including Mini-camp, a combined Basic/Intermediate session, and an Advanced session that leads into the Junior Counselor program.
